Talent and tradition, The Wandering Majlis textile project

The textile project of The Wandering Majlis collection is inspired by the Al-Sadu’s designs and weaving techniques, proposing an unprecedented cultural fusion between ancient wisdom and the contemporary technology of a Made in Italy product. The result is an object of timeless charm, suspended between personal creativity and the extraordinariness of the talent that produced it. A fabric in which distant memories are interwoven with design and the art of hospitality, which characterize the philosophy of Jwana Hamdan products.

A journey into the art of Al-Sadu weaving

Where the wind finds no boundaries and the house loses all architectural value, Al-Sadu fabrics protect and complete nomadic tents. Created by the gentle and powerful gestures of women, they are everyday objects sublimated by talent and beauty.

Realized on floor frames, removable and resealable, the Al-Sadu panels protect from the wind and sand on the outside or decorate the cushions and upholstery by dividing the interior spaces according to the occasion of use. The colours are those of the earth, the materials are the wool of sheep and camels that travel together with the tribe, through the endless landscapes of the desert. In a symbiotic balance between man and nature that still today is a founding value of nomadic culture.

In the stories under the stars, women have handed down with ancient words the secrets of their knowledge, even those of weaving. And intertwined with stories and memories, they narrated all the knowledge of their generation, to the point of getting lost in the eternal resort of time. The movements are learned by assimilation, the creativity of the drawings becomes a distinctive sign, the talent of the craftsman is transformed into art.

The textures of Al-Sadu fabrics reveal in the details of the decorations tales of travel and of populations in continuous movement, incorporating in their plots memories and knowledge, from mythological to traditional fairy tales, up to details of astronomy, indispensable to move in the boundless sea of the desert without losing its course.

The patterns inserted in the Al-Sadu fabrics recall figures with precise symbolism, earth, water, fire, animals. Or infinite lines, like the boundless horizontality of the landscape.
